Dear Parents,

Please find below an update on the Superintendent search process:

  • Week of February 15:  The Search Committee received 21 application packets consisting of cover letters, resumes and recommendations to review and rate.
  • February 28: The Search Committee met to determine semi-finalist candidates and formulate questions to be asked during the interview process.
  • Week of March 13: The Search Committee will conduct semi-finalist interviews and choose finalist candidates.
  • End of March:  Finalist candidates will make site visits to Westwood and the School Committee will conduct finalist interviews in public session.
  • Early April: The School Committee will select a new Superintendent of Schools.

Dear Parents,

I want to provide you with another update about the ongoing superintendent search. Please note the following:

  • Over the past two weeks several focus groups have been conducted by our search consultant, Scott Borstel of Future Management Systems.  Mr. Borstel met with municipal department heads, members of the Board of Selectmen, school administration, School Committee, school faculty and staff, students, and finally, parents and community members. The meetings were well attended and the conversation was very helpful. Mr. Borstel will use the input from these sessions to develop a “leadership profile” which will outline what characteristics, values, etc. the community wants in its next superintendent.  

  • The position has been widely advertised throughout the Commonwealth, as well in Education Week, a national publication. Applications are due by February 8th.

  • Thank you to the more than 250 people who completed the online survey designed to collect community input.

  • A Search Committee has been formed and will meet on February 15 to discuss the process and review the applications. The Search Committee will interview semi-finalists in March and will make its recommendation of finalist candidates to the School Committee. The School Committee will then conduct finalist interviews, in public session, and will make its selection of a new Superintendent in April.

  • The Search Committee members are as follows:  Josepha Jowdy (School Committee), Carol Lewis (School Committee), Deb Gallagher (Downey Principal), Allison Borchers (Middle School Principal), Carolyn Casey (WTA President/Deerfield teacher), Robert Worth (Middle School Art teacher), Jeff Silva (Westwood Police Chief), Craig Foscaldo (parent), Kendra Lassen (parent), and a high school student to be determined. ​​​​​​​

January 16, 2017: Reminder/Update about the upcoming Superintendent Search

Dear Parents,

This message is an update/reminder about the ongoing superintendent search. Please note the following:

  • Mark your calendar: The search consultant will be facilitating a series of focus groups during the month of January which are designed to collect valuable feedback regarding competencies and qualities of the next superintendent. We hope you can join us for the community focus group on Thursday, January 26, 2017 from 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm in the High School Little Theater.

  • The School Committee focus group originally scheduled for January 17, 2017 has been cancelled. We apologize for the inconvenience and encourage you to attend the community focus group on January 26.

  • A reminder that if you are interested in serving on the Superintendent Search Committee to please submit a letter of interest by Friday, January 20, 2107 to School Committee Chairperson Josepha Jowdy at josepha@josephajowdy.com.

  • The online survey designed to collect community input will be available to you until Friday, January 27, 2017. Please click here to access the survey and share with the School Committee the desired competencies and qualities you believe the next superintendent should possess.

January 6, 2017:  A message from the School Committee

As you may be aware, in early December Dr. Antonucci announced that he will be leaving the Westwood Public Schools effective July 1, 2017 to become the next Superintendent for the Duxbury Public Schools. The Westwood School Committee would like to take this opportunity to recognize Dr. Antonucci for his 12 years of service to the Westwood community. Over the past 12 years, Dr. Antonucci has done much to strengthen the Westwood Public Schools community. As a result of his hard work, the Westwood Public Schools is a better place. We wish Dr. Antonucci the best of luck in his future professional endeavors.

 

The Westwood School Committee has begun to focus on hiring the next superintendent of schools. We have contracted with Future Management Systems to assist in the facilitation of this important search process. Dr. Scott Borstel, lead consultant, will assist us as we begin the exciting task of hiring Westwood’s next superintendent of schools effective July 1, 2017. In order to ensure that we hire the superintendent who will best meet the needs of our community, we are offering all constituents (students, parents, staff, and community) multiple ways to become involved in the search process.

 

First, if you are interested in serving on the Superintendent Search Committee please submit a letter of interest by Friday, January 20, 2107 to School Committee Chairperson Josepha Jowdy at josepha@josephajowdy.com. The Superintendent Search Committee will consist of two school committee members, two parents, two Westwood Public Schools administrators, two Westwood Public Schools staff members, one student, and one community member. The timeline for the superintendent search process will be as follows:

The second way that you can be a part of the superintendent search process is to participate in an online survey designed to collect student, staff and community input regarding the desired competencies and qualities you believe the next superintendent should possess. If you are interested in completing this questionnaire, please follow the link provided at the end of this correspondence. The results of this questionnaire will be used to develop a superintendent profile to guide the search process. This online questionnaire will be available to you until Friday, January 27, 2017.

 

Finally, Future Management Systems will be facilitating a series of focus groups during the month of January, which are designed to collect valuable feedback regarding competencies and qualities of the next superintendent. Two of these scheduled focus groups apply to you. The schedule for these focus groups will be as follows:
