March 28, 2017

Dear Parents,

The School Committee has identified three finalist candidates and will conduct public interviews with each of them on Tuesday, March 28th starting at 6PM.

On Wednesday, March 29th the Westwood School Committee will  be deliberating in public session at 5PM and will hopefully vote to identify one candidate to go into executive session for contract negotiations with non union personnel.

The public is invited to attend and observe both nights but only School Committee members will be allowed to participate in the interview process and in any follow up discussion.

Thank you,

Josepha Jowdy, School Committee Chair

Dear Members of the Westwood Community,

I would like to take this opportunity to extend my sincere thanks to the Westwood Superintendent Search Committee for their dedication to identifying three finalists for the Westwood Superintendent vacancy. After reviewing applications, interviewing for three nights, and deliberating last night, the SearchCommittee has identified the following three candidates as finalists: Allan Cameron, Superintendent of Schools in Wrentham, Patricia Kinsella, Assistant Superintendent in Lincoln, and Emily Parks, Assistant Superintendent in Westwood. We are very pleased with the strength of our finalist candidate pool.

The final phase of the Superintendent selection process will take place beginning this Thursday. We realize this is rather short notice, but we lost several days due to the snowstorm last week and wanted to be sure we did not delay the search. The schedule will be as follows:

Ms. Kinsella will end her day with a meet and greet with parents and community members from 3:45-4:15 at the Little Theater at Westwood High School. There will also be an opportunity for those who interact with Ms. Kinsella to provide electronic feedback regarding her candidacy.

Dear Parents,

I want to provide you with another update about the ongoing superintendent search. Please note the following:

  • Over the past two weeks several focus groups have been conducted by our search consultant, Scott Borstel of Future Management Systems.  Mr. Borstel met with municipal department heads, members of the Board of Selectmen, school administration, School Committee, school faculty and staff, students, and finally, parents and community members. The meetings were well attended and the conversation was very helpful. Mr. Borstel will use the input from these sessions to develop a “leadership profile” which will outline what characteristics, values, etc. the community wants in its next superintendent.

  • The position has been widely advertised throughout the Commonwealth, as well in Education Week, a national publication. Applications are due by February 8th.

  • Thank you to the more than 250 people who completed the online survey designed to collect community input.

  • A Search Committee has been formed and will meet on February 15 to discuss the process and review the applications. The Search Committee will interview semi-finalists in March and will make its recommendation of finalist candidates to the School Committee. The School Committee will then conduct finalist interviews, in public session, and will make its selection of a new Superintendent in April.

  • The Search Committee members are as follows:  Josepha Jowdy (School Committee), Carol Lewis (School Committee), Deb Gallagher (Downey Principal), Allison Borchers (Middle School Principal), Carolyn Casey (WTA President/Deerfield teacher), Robert Worth (Middle School Art teacher), Jeff Silva (Westwood Police Chief), Craig Foscaldo (parent), Kendra Lassen (parent), and a high school student to be determined.

We greatly appreciate your participation and interest in this process. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Josepha Jowdy, School Committee Chair
