Martha Jones School
Mini-Course Program
Winter Session 2010

The Martha Jones PTO is pleased to announce that the winter session of the After School Mini Course Program will begin the week of Monday, January 25.

Attached please find course listings.  Class fees and schedules vary, so please see individual listings for course specifics.

The intent of mini-courses is to provide a wide variety of extra-curricular classes for Martha Jones students.  The program is not designed to generate revenue for the PTO.  If, however, income exceeds expenses, any surplus money will go into the PTO account.

Parents-In-Charge are a vital part of the mini-course program.  We will need one parent to be responsible for making sure the children are accounted for, and to call parents if the class has to be canceled.  You will not need to help with the class, but should be present to monitor the children and take them for bathroom breaks, etc.  To compensate you for your time, your child will receive one free mini-course.

Please consider being a Parent-In-Charge – we really need you!
Courses may be canceled if there is no Parent-In-Charge volunteer.

All classes require a minimum number of students to run.  In the event that a class fails to meet the minimum number, the class will be canceled.

REGISTRATION FORMS ARE DUE BY WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 20.  THERE WILL BE A LOTTERY TO FILL SPOTS AVAILABLE IN EACH CLASS.  Any registration forms received after the deadline will be honored if space is still available.  You will NOT receive written confirmation.  Assume your child is registered, unless you are notified.

DON’T MISS OUT – ACT NOW!!!

Registration Deadline is January 20!

Are you interested in winning the Spelling Bee? Want to get an edge on the competition? Sign up for this unique course that offers an opportunity to look at the languages that have influenced English, Spanish, French and Italian. You will learn the basic structure of the language combined with the culture and history of the Ancient Mediterranean World (Westwood's 6th grade SS curriculum). "I will say at once, quite firmly, that the best grounding for education is the Latin grammar. I say this not because Latin is traditional and medieval, but simply because even a rudimentary knowledge of Latin cuts down the labor and pains of learning almost any other subject by at least 50 percent." -- From the National Review.
