Message from the Principal

Dear Deerfield Families,

Responsibility is one of the Deerfield core values. We are always looking for ways to teach our students to be responsible members of their local, national, and global communities. Two years ago, our kindergarten teachers and students helped us be responsible members of the Westwood community by sponsoring a whole-school drive for the Westwood Food Pantry. I'm pleased to report that the whole-school drive is back, this time led by our second grade team!

The Deerfield School Drive for the Westwood Food Pantry starts on Monday March 5 and runs through Friday March 23. Each grade level is being asked to focus donations on particular areas of need:

Kindergarten - individually wrapped toilet paper and paper towels
Grade 1 - juice (bottled, powdered, juice boxes)
Grade 2 - caned goods (fruit, vegetables, spaghetti, ravioli, and spaghetti sauce)
Grade 3 - coffee and tea
Grade 4 - health and beauty aids (shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, soap, deodorant)
Grade 5 - laundry detergent and cleanser

Please have your students bring donations to school until Friday March 23. During that time the second grade will keep track of the donations as part of their math lessons. They will count and graph the number of donations made by each grade. Once all donations are in, the second grade students and their teachers will transport everything to the Westwood Food Pantry.

Thanks to Mrs. McCarty and Mrs. Hardy for organizing this wonderful community service project! If you have any questions, please let me know.

Yours truly,

Allan Cameron
