Message from the Principal

Hello Deerfield Families,

One of the best events of the year is the annual Westwood Education Foundation (WEF) Spelling Bee. Volunteer students from grades 3, 4, and 5 represent Deerfield in a "battle royal" to determine the top spelling-school in the district. I'm very pleased to report that we had several Deerfield students participate. I enjoyed watching them work together to spell the words correctly and seeing their interesting outfits. The Deerfield teams and their respective members were:

Super Star Spellers      Word Nerds            The Destroyers
Laurel Barnett              Brett Hogan             Gus Dudley
Ava Pujado                  Griffin Hunter           Nick Kelly
Paige Dimeo                Tommy Krumsiek     Alec Sheehan
Shea Loughnane

Queen Bees             Spectacular Spellars         A Bee C's
Julia Prekenis            Ashley Mackin            Olivia Jordan Mula
Ashlyn Driscoll         Kathleen Reissfelder      Drew Bass
Sarah Bernardo         Tessa Scolaro               Abby Draeger
Caroline Hall            Caroline Woodard         Matt Capone

Brainiac Bees              Wee Kan Spell            Plain White Bees
Isabella Hamdan           William Carr                Josh Morris
Kate Dudley                Stephen Jessup              Ben Morris
Natalie DeMaio           Braden Loughnane      Justin O'Dwyer
Faye Durant                     Jake Shields               Colin Miller

Marvelous Marvins          Midnight Gecko Bobs
Madeline Medina                 John Fusco
Isabelle Medina              Thomas Messineo
Philip Bligh                    Charlie Harrington
Hannah Jordanides            Richard Adams

I am very thankful for the efforts of all of our competitors. They did their very best and made Deerfield proud! I also thank the Deerfield parents who were involved in the Spelling Bee and work for WEF. Each year WEF awards grants to educators for interesting pursuits that improve teaching and learning. WEF is a wonderful resource that we are fortunate to have in Westwood.
Yours truly,
Allan Cameron

                                 NOTE TO THIRD GRADE PARENTS.....

All third grade parents should have recently received a letter introducing the Body Safety Theater Program that will be performed for the third grade classes in April. Please remember that we will be holding two identical informational meetings where parents/guardians will have the opportunity to view a video of a previous performance and to ask any questions they may have about the program. We invite all third grade parents from any of the elementary schools to join us for one of the two meetings:

*Wednesday, March 21^st , 7pm - 8pm*
                         or

*Thursday, March 22nd, 9:30 - 10:30 AM

The above meetings will be held at the Islington Community Center at 288 Washington Street. The Westwood Youth and Family Services' entrance is located on East Street, across from Morrison baseball field at the top of the wheelchair accessible ramp.

If parents/guardians have any questions prior to the meetings, or are unable to attend either of the meetings and would like further information about the program, please do not hesitate from contacting Tracy Gabriel at Westwood Youth & Family Services at (781) 251-2575.
