Message from the Principal

Dear Deerfield Families,

I am very pleased to report that our students, parents, and staff members demonstrated our core value of responsibility over the past few weeks by participating in the second Deerfield School Drive for the Westwood Food Pantry. The drive was led by our second grade teachers, Mrs. McCarty and Mrs. Hardy, and their students. They asked people from the entire Deerfield community to bring items ranging from canned food to health care items for the people who frequent the Westwood Food Pantry. The response was amazing! They collected 716 items and $75! The people at the Pantry were overwhelmed by the generosity of the Deerfield community. I loved seeing the second graders return from delivering the items to the Pantry. They each had a huge smile and well-earned sense of accomplishment.

I want to give a special thanks to Mrs. Hardy and Mrs. McCarty for their leadership. We did a whole-school drive for the Westwood Food Pantry two years ago. That drive was led by our kindergarten teachers and students. I saw how much work it was for Ms. Greene and Mrs. Hardy back then, and I appreciate Mrs. McCarty and Mrs. Hardy taking on the challenge again this year. They are examples of the excellent staff we have at Deerfield School.

Have a great weekend!

Yours truly,

Allan Cameron

Physical Education News

GREAT NEWS! Deerfield School raised $1,600 dollars for our Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser!  Thank you all for making this fundraiser such a success!  OOPS! Unfortunately, the American Heart Association had a major computer glitch and the names of all the Deerfield students were accidentally erased.  The American Heart Association wants to be sure that all the students who participated in the fundraiser receive their gifts.  If you can please send the name of your child, grade, and the amount she or he raised for the fundraiser to Ms. Wine (jwine@westwood.k12.ma.us), that would be wonderful.  We apologize for any inconvenience that has caused and we will ensure that this does not happen again next year.  Thanks for your cooperation.
