Message from the Principal
Dear Deerfield Parents and Families,
I hope you had a relaxing week away from school and enjoyed some of the nice weather! We had a lot of exciting things happen in the weeks before the break, and in the next few issues of Leaps and Bounds I will write about each one. This week, I want to tell you about the Deerfield School PTO 4th and 5th Grade Play. This year we had a record number of students participate in the annual tradition. The students put on a show called Lights! Camera! Music! which was written and directed by Christine McCarthy. The play told the story of high school students and their experiences auditioning for a school play. How appropriate! The dialogue was engaging, the music toe-tapping, and the scenery masterfully rendered and manipulated.
I want to thank the students who made this production possible. They worked hard in rehearsal and set-production to make the play a reality. I really enjoyed seeing them in action! The cast and crew of the 2012 production of Lights! Camera! Music! were:

I also want to thank the Deerfield PTO very much for making the play happen. Not all elementary schools in Westwood have school plays because they are major undertakings with many headaches and minimal thanks. Fortunately, we have parents here at Deerfield who welcome the challenge every year. If we did not have parents willing to take the lead we would not have this wonderful event. Thank you very much!

YEARBOOK NEWS
Last chance to purchase the 2012 Deerfield yearbook this week. After Friday 4/27 the price for the yearbook goes up to $27.00. Final deadline for ordering yearbooks is Friday, May 4th. Yearbooks can be ordered online through www.coffeepond.com. Please do not order yearbooks for 5th grade students as these will be provided as a gift from the PTO. All next week you are invited to come and watch your child perform his or her creative dance routine in Physical Education to celebrate National Physical Education month! All are welcome! PMC Kids Ride - Sunday June 10th - Who are you Riding For?
Registration is now open for Westwood's 5th annual PMC Kid's Ride Sunday, June 10th at 9 am at the Martha Jones School. Please visit kids.pmc.org/westwood to register, pick your route and start your fundraising. Last year, turnout was again fantastic with 500 riders raising over $58K in the fight against cancer. Volunteer registration is also open and we welcome parents and teens 14+.

Bus Transportation Registration Available Online
We are excited about our online registration and payment process and hope that you find this system informative and easy to use.
If you are interested in Bus Transportation for your child next fall, please visit the Westwood Public Schools' website at www.westwood.k12.ma.us and click on the Bus Transportation button on the home page. After reading through the Frequently Asked Questions Page, you can complete a Registration form and pay online for transportation. A valid registration form and payment must be received by June 30th. There is no guarantee that a seat will be available after June 30th.
Please note that parents registering students for transportation will need their child's Student ID number which can be found in several places: elementary school lunch invoices, middle school lunch cards, report cards or Westwood High School ID cards. Please make sure to enter the grade the student will be entering next fall.
