Dear Deerfield Families,

This is the final Leaps and Bounds for the 2012-2013 school year. I want to thank you for everything you did to make this year a success. As I reflect on the year, I can't believe how quickly it went and how many great things we did as a community. Here are some of my favorites:

Watching all of our students progress academically and socially

Forming closer connections with our current students and their families, and making new connections with our new students and their families

Having successful family picnics in the fall and the spring that included the current Deerfield community, our neighbors, and incoming kindergarten families

Raising over $1,000 for the Westwood Public Library through our third annual Walk-A-Thon

Going on our annual whole-school field trip to Wheelock Theater to see The Phantom Tollbooth

Collecting hundred of items for the Westwood Food Pantry with our second annual whole-school food drive, spear-headed by our second grade teachers and students

Enjoying Movie Night, Game Night, the Science Fair, Night of the Arts, the 4th and 5th Grade Play, the Talent Show, the Holiday Gift Shop, several school spirit days, and all of the wonderful PTO and Student Council events we had this year

As you can see, we had a great school year! The end of the school year is always bitter-sweet. I will miss all of the students and teachers during the summer and look forward to seeing most people back in September. For the students, staff members, and families who won't return to Deerfield, I want to thank you for all you gave our community during your time here. We will miss you and wish you continued success.

Have a great summer!
Yours truly,
Allan Cameron

FROM THE HEALTH OFFICE:

The end of 2011 - 2012 school year is upon us.  I wish you all a fun, relaxing, happy, and healthy summer.  This is a reminder that a parent must pick up any medication that was in the health office this year on the last day of school which is June 18th.  If it is not picked up by 12 noon on June 19th, it will be destroyed.  The health office is closed for the summer.  If you need to get in touch with me, please feel free to send me an e-mail at tdeangelis@westwood.k12.ma.us, as I will be checking it periodically throughout the summer.  The health office will be open again on August 29th.

                        News from the Library:

Dear Families,

Thank you for an amazing year! To kick off a summer of reading, the fabulous librarians from the Westwood Public Library visited each class this week. During the visits, students were introduced to exciting new books that will be available at the public library and the Statewide Summer Reading Program "Dream Big, Read!" If you would like to register your child please visit http://www.readsinma.org/index.asp?lib=westwood

A list of books will also be available online. The link is not official yet, but I will add it to the Deerfield Library Webpage once it is available. To view the list follow the link to the Westwood Public Library Summer Reading list that will be posted at: https://sites.google.com/a/westwood.k12.ma.us/deerfield-library/home/summer-reading

It was a pleasure to work with you and your children this year. Thank you to the amazing crew of parent and student volunteers who helped in the library this year.

Enjoy the summer and keep reading! I look forward to seeing you in the fall!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Krass
