GUIDING PRINCIPLES
Physical Education
National Association for Physical Education (NASPE) Guidelines for Physical Education programs offer the best opportunity to provide physical activity to all children and teach them the skills and knowledge needed to establish and sustain an active lifestyle. Physical education teachers assess student knowledge, motor and social skills, and provide instruction in a safe, supportive environment.
Health
The Center of Disease Control and Prevention has identified guidelines for effective Health programs (See Appendix H: CDC Characteristics of Effective Health Education Guidelines).
Topics include: · Teaching functional health information (essential knowledge) · Shaping personal values and beliefs that support healthy behaviors · Shaping group norms that value a healthy lifestyle · Developing the essential health skills necessary to adopt, practice, and maintain health-enhancing behaviors
Culinary Arts and Consumer Science (CACE)
Family and consumer science is the comprehensive body of skills, research, and knowledge that helps people make informed decisions about their relationships to family, and resources to achieve optimal quality of life. The field represents many areas including personal and family finance, consumer issues, food science, nutrition, and wellness.
