Grade 7 Social Studies

Thurston Middle School
Grade 7Social Studies:  Links, Legacies, and Turning Points
Course Overview

Introduction
Seventh-grade Social Studies is a combination of history and geography.  Students examine historical and current events issues in different parts of the world, and they recognize how cultures interact with and influence one another.  They also study the earth’s physical and human geography, with an emphasis on how the environment affects where and how people live.  In doing so, students learn how to use a variety of geography related tools such as maps, graphs, diagrams, and books.  In addition, students’ research skills are applied and extended as they evaluate primary and secondary sources to understand different viewpoints and perspectives on historical events and patterns.
