Thurston Middle School
Grade 8 Health
Instructor: Kristina Wambolt
Introduction:
During the class, students will be able to ask questions, which will be answered factually and in an age appropriate manner. Each student’s privacy will be respected, and no one will be put on the spot to ask or answer questions that reveal personal information.
One exciting new program we are putting in place is the implementation of Second Step—a social competency curriculum that will be taught as part of our guidance and health classes. Second Step lessons tackle the underlying causes and overt behaviors of bullying. One important component of Second Step is home/school communication, and parents will be receiving updates from our guidance and health teachers. There will also be family activities from time to time that students are asked to complete with their parents/guardians.
Under Massachusetts law and School Committee policy, you may exempt your child from any portion of the curriculum that primarily involves sexual education or sexuality issues. To exempt your child, simply send me a letter requesting that your child be exempt from this portion of the curriculum.
