Today's WHS assembly featuring the No Hate Tour combined a live X-Games BMX show with messages on bullying prevention, mental health awareness, and building a "No Hate" environment. Students heard about facing adversity, following your dreams, finding your potential and treating others the way you want to be treated. The high-energy event culminated in an exciting trick featuring Dr. Murray!
Our first School Committee of the new school year is tonight! All meetings are held in the WHS Little Theater unless noted otherwise, as well as live-streamed and recorded by Westwood Media Center.

The Westwood Community Coalition to Combat Hate Speech exists to strengthen a community culture where every person is treated with dignity, respect, and belonging. We bring together students, families, educators, community organizations, town and faith leaders, and residents to address identity-based bias and dehumanizing behavior before it escalates into more serious harm. Through education, partnerships, clear expectations, and practical tools for intervention, we aim to strengthen the social norms that make Westwood a welcoming community for all.
Our purpose is not to respond to individual incidents. Rather, we seek to identify and address the broader culture that allows bias, exclusion, and hate to take root in our community and schools.
The Coalition welcomes participation from anyone who works, lives, volunteers, leads, or worships in Westwood. This includes parents, caregivers, students, Westwood educators and staff, community, civic, and faith leaders, coaches, and youth program leaders, and any resident interested in supporting this mission. We can’t do this work alone, and it’s enriched by a broad range of perspectives and experiences.
Our schools are ready for students tomorrow, thanks to the custodial and facilities staff who work throughout the year and each summer to keep every building clean, safe and in top shape for students and staff. We said THANK YOU with a team gathering before the big day!

Yesterday we honored staff members who are celebrating milestone years of service with the Westwood Public Schools. We had dozens of staff celebrating 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 years with WPS -- wow! We also recognized 2026 retirees, who collectively dedicated 250 years of service to Westwood. Congratulations and THANK YOU to all of our milestone staff members and retirees for your hard work, dedication and positive impact on the WPS community.
Before stepping into their future, the WHS Class of 2026 took one last trip back to their past. Wearing their graduation gowns, seniors rode those familiar big yellow school buses to the elementary schools where their journeys began -- ending with TMS. As they walked through the halls, they were met with cheers from young students who look up to them and many teachers who remember them. What a full-circle moment!
Middle school students took the spotlight in our annual TMS spring band concerts last night. Nice work, performers! 🎶 🎺 🥁
We are very happy to announce that Dr. John Murray will become the next principal of Westwood High School! We look forward to welcoming Dr. Murray to the WPS team.
Throughout this week, teachers and staff have been treated to special perks, food and beverage deliveries, and gestures of appreciation -- organized by our PTOs and PTAs at each school for Teacher Appreciation Week. THANK YOU to all of our amazing educators for the work they do every day to connect with, care for and impart knowledge to our students!
Spring has finally sprung! Over the past few weeks, elementary students have been working hard cleaning, prepping and planting in the gardens at multiple schools across the district. 🌷 🌻 🥕
The annual TMS Writers Conference was a big success earlier this week, where 7th graders heard from nine local published authors, attended writing workshops to soak up their expertise, and enjoyed a book signing in the library. ✍️ 📚
Students in Mrs. Carpenter's and Miss Hood's first grade classroom at Sheehan have been learning all about horses and The Kentucky Derby. They celebrated Derby Day by dressing in their finest Churchill Downs attire. They are off to the races!
Our last School Committee meeting had a very special visitor -- our next Sheehan principal! We're excited to welcome Ms. Mahoney to the community.
