11/22/21Week of November 22nd

Reminder: Thanksgiving Recess

Students will be dismissed at 12:00pm on Wednesday, November 24th and all Westwood Public Schools will be closed on Thursday, November 25th and Friday, November 26th for the Thanksgiving recess.

Reminder: No School on Monday, November 29th

The Monday after Thanksgiving, Monday, November 29th, is a full-day of professional development for all Westwood Public Schools faculty and staff. All Westwood Public Schools will be closed for students on that day. Enjoy the extended Thanksgiving recess.

Reminder: No Pool Testing This Week

The district will not be offering pool testing the week of November 22nd. Districts have been advised by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education that pool testing should only be conducted if there is sufficient time to complete the entire testing cycle, including follow-up testing with members of positive pools and contact tracing. Given the schedule that week, with only 2 ½ school days, it is not feasible to provide both testing and the resulting follow-up.  Pool testing will resume immediately following the Thanksgiving recess.

Thank You: Westwood Food Pantry Community Service Project

Thank you so much to everyone who participated in our community service project and donated to the Westwood Food Pantry. It was a hugely successful food drive and a wonderful way to connect the Deerfield and Hanlon schools to support the Westwood community. Deerfield collected a grand total of 2,616 donations for the Food Pantry.

Thank you so much to the Deerfield PTO, especially our Co-Chairs Andrea DiCicco, Kara Bleday, and Leah Rice, for organizing this project. Thank you so much to Deerfield parents Julie Wallace, Ada Penabaz, Janet O'Donnell, Kara Bleday, and Leah Rice for picking up all of the donations on Friday and delivering them to the Food Pantry.

Thank You: New Binder Machine

Thank you so much to the Deerfield PTO for purchasing a new binding machine for the Deerfield school. The binding machine is a very useful tool that allows teachers to do many things, including binding students' writing together to create classroom books.

Thank you: Teacher Dinner

Thank you so much to the Deerfield PTO, especially Deerfield parent, Sachiyo Unger, for providing dinner for the Deerfield teachers during the evening parent-teacher conferences last Thursday, November 18th.

Thank You: Snack Cart

Thank you so much to the Canelli family and Brown family, for all of the delicious snacks they provided over the past two weeks! The Deerfield staff is so appreciative of your generosity and looks forward to these special treats each week!

The Deerfield Site Council meets monthly throughout the year. Our meetings are usually held on the second Monday of the month from 3:30pm - 4:30pm. Please contact Mr. Baumer if you are interested in serving on the Deerfield Site Council during the 2021-2022 school year.
