Intentionally designed and meaningful homework works as a useful educational tool which contributes to and reinforces students’ understanding of curriculum. It allows students to practice skills and apply principles, based upon work that began in the classroom, enriching the students' school experience and promoting an ongoing interest in learning.

Students can expect that:

  • Homework assignments are assigned by the teacher by the end of the period.
  • Except in the case of long-term assignments, homework is due by the start of the next day’s class.
  • For long-term assignments submitted online, deadlines should not be later than 10:00 pm.
  • Teachers will employ at least one way to communicate homework assignments that can be an expectation throughout the year. These may include posting to an online platform such as Google Classroom or Canvas, or written on the board in class.
  • They may be required to complete only one day of homework to be due on the day following any weekend or other multi-day break (including three-day weekends and vacation weeks). No assessments/quizzes/tests/papers/projects may be due on the day following a vacation week. Exceptions may exist for AP classes. Expectations for each holiday are outlined each year in the document, WHS Holiday and Vacation Student Work Guidelines 2024-2025.
