Early Dismissal on Wednesday, January 22nd

Wednesday, January 22nd will be early-release days for students. Students will be dismissed at 11:25am and lunch will not be served in school.

 

 

Deerfield Site Council Members and Next Meeting

We are looking for one or two Deerfield parents to serve on the Deerfield Site Council this year. The Deerfield Site Council is a school advisory group that is composed on parents, teachers, and community members. The council members assist the principal in: 1) Adopting educational goals for the school that are consistent with local educational policies and statewide student performance standards, 2) identifying the educational needs of students attending the school, 3) reviewing the annual school building budget, and 4) discussing a school improvement plan.

 

The Deerfield Site Council meets monthly throughout the year. Our meetings are usually held on Mondays from 3:00pm - 4:00pm. Please contact Mr. Baumer if you are interested in serving on the Deerfield Site Council during the 2019-2020 school year.

January Report Cards Sent Home on Friday, January 31st

The Elementary Report Cards for all students will be mailed home on Friday, January 31st. The January Report Cards offer an excellent opportunity for teachers to share how students are currently performing as they work toward end-of-the-year grade-level benchmarks. 

 

If you do not receive your child's Report Card by Wednesday, February 5th, please contact Mrs. Steverman.

 

 

Staffing Update: Art Teacher

We are thrilled to announce that Carla Miller, Hanlon/Deerfield Art teacher, welcomed a healthy baby girl on Friday, January 10th. The whole family is doing well and enjoying this special time together. Please join me in congratulating Ms. Miller. We look forward to welcoming her back to Deerfield in September.

 

We are very fortunate to have hired a wonderful long-term substitute for our Monday and Friday Art classes. Kevin Long will be joining Deerfield and Hanlon beginning this week. Mr. Long is a recent graduate of the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston. He has worked as a Special Education Paraprofessional and taught after-school art classes through Brookline Public Schools for several years. He has also worked as a long-term Art teacher substitute in Arlington this fall. Mr. Long will be a valuable addition to Deerfield and Hanlon through the end of the year. Please join me in welcoming him to our community.

 

 

Staffing Update: School Psychologist

Mrs. Kristine MacDonald returns from her maternity leave this week. Mrs. MacDonald's long-term substitute, Ms. Mikaela Flynn, will be with us until Thursday, January 23rd, so she and Mrs. MacDonald can have a few overlap days. Please join me in welcoming Mrs. McDonald back to Deerfield and please join me in expressing our immense gratitude to Ms. Flynn for all she has done for the Deerfield students and community over the past two and a half months.

 

 

Reminder: Family Yoga Night at Deerfield, January 28th 6:00pm and 7:00pm

Tracy Affonso will be providing Family Yoga Nights again this year! Thank you to our amazing PTO for providing funds specifically for Mindfulness activities, and thank you to the Mindfulness Committee: Terese Hardy, Karen Mangiacotti and Olivia Wardle. The Family Yoga Nights will take place in the Deerfield gym. There will be two sessions each night; one from 6:00 - 7:00pm and one from 7:00 - 8:00pm. Each session will be limited to 12 families. The first session will take place on January 28th from 6:00 - 7:00pm and 7:00 - 8:00pm. There will also be sessions on March 25th and May 21st.

Reminder: DRAFT Schedule for Spring 2020 MCAS Testing

A draft of the Spring 2020 MCAS testing schedule has been created for the elementary schools. The testing period runs between March 30th - May 22nd. As with past years, the testing sessions for each grade-level have been spread out as equitably as possible. Please be aware that this is a draft schedule and is subject to change.
