Google Expedition Pioneer Program

As I shared in last week's Principal's Message, on Tuesday, March 22nd, all Deerfield students in grades two through five will have an opportunity to participate in the Google Expeditions Pioneer Program. Google Expeditions is a new and unique technology that allows teachers to take their students on virtual field trips, immersing students in experiences that bring abstract concepts to life and giving students a deeper understanding of the world beyond the classroom.

This is an extremely exciting opportunity for our students and teachers. I am very much looking forward to traveling the world next Tuesday with them. If you have a child in grades two through five, I encourage to ask them about where the traveled and what they experienced during their thirty-minute virtual field trip.

Thank you so much to our Instructional Technology Coach, Judy Kress, to applying for and organizing the Google Expeditions for Deerfield. Thank you to our Library Media Specialist, Julie Krass, for her help with developing the schedule for the day.

Deerfield Extension Project Reminder and Update

The "cut-through" behind Town Hall and the Westwood Police Department will be closed for the duration of the Deerfield Extension project. As a result, all traffic to and from the Deerfield school will have to go through Gay Street to Deerfield Avenue. In order to maintain safe and orderly arrival and dismissal times, it is imperative that parents and guardians only live park in the front circle when dropping off and picking up their children. Parents and guardians will not be permitted to park in the circle and get out of their cars during these times. This safety procedure will be enforced during all afternoon dismissal time. Members of the Westwood Police Department will be present to help.

The Department of Public Works has opened the gate between the Westwood Public Library parking lot and the Deerfield fields. Parents and students are welcome to walk to the Deerfield School from the library. However, please use the walking path around the field. It is important that we stay off the grass until the fields are officially reopened. The expected date for reopening the fields is May 1st.
