Fifth-Grade Car Wash on Saturday, May 14th

The graduating 5th grade class is holding a car wash on May 14th from 9:00am - 12:00pm at Westwood High School. This year they have decided not only to give back to the school with their proceeds, but to also give part of their earnings to the Westwood PMC Kids ride. 5th grade student Alexa Kelly was diagnosed with Leukemia when she was 5 years old. After going through intense rounds of chemotherapy and being in the hospital for 6 weeks she was able to go home. Alexa's amazing neighbor and fellow Deerfield parent, Mary Carol Waters, started the obstacle course at the PMC ride in honor of Alexa now titled "Alexa's obstacle course" and it was Alexa's fist stop after returning home from the hospital.

The 5th graders are ready to wash and we are hoping to keep them very busy on the 14th. Please help them out by bringing your cars by for a wash and donating to the school and PMC.
Thank you!

PMC Kids Ride on Sunday, May 22nd

The PMC Kids Ride is just around the corner and we need riders. This is truly an amazing event and the kids love it! For those of you who have been involved in the past, you know what a terrific time this is and how much money is raised for the Jimmy Fund. If you have not participated in the past, you are in for a wonderful treat. This event is the epitome of what a community can do at a local level to make a huge change for many. Children of all ages participate and it truly is a family affair. The Jimmy Fund has directly supported Westwood Public School children fighting cancer. Please consider joining this event.

Registration Information:

Online registration is open for just one more week at $20 per rider through 5/18. After 5/18, the cost is $25 per rider.

Kids ages 4 to 15 are welcome to participate in one of three routes and those ages 12 through adults are encouraged to volunteer. Join us for a terrific day of fun, camaraderie and inspiration as we work together to end cancer!

Grab your bikes to join in Westwood's 9th annual kids ride. Whether you have participated in the past or new to the ride, this is an event you do not want your kids to miss. Throughout the day there will be face painting, bike decorating, field games, music and refreshments. The PMC kids ride gives children the opportunity to be involved in the fight against cancer. Too many of us have been impacted by cancer and this is one way, one mile at a time we can make a difference. This ride supports both Dana Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund.

Memorial Day Ceremony on Tuesday, May 24th at 8:45am

On Tuesday, May 24th, the Deerfield community is invited to attend a special Memorial Day ceremony. The ceremony will begin at 8:45am and will last approximate 30-45 minutes. We will gather around the flagpole in front of Deerfield. We will begin with the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by some student speakers sharing the meaning of Memorial Day. The program will conclude with the singing of some patriotic songs. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will take place in the Deerfield gymnasium. We hope you can join us.

Buzz Off!

One of Deerfield's 3rd grade students, Zac Ventola, is doing a wonderful thing that I want to share with the Deerfield community. Zac is taking part in the One Mission Buzz Off for Kids with Cancer program. He is selling toys, selling buttons, accepting donations... and shaving his head to raise money to help and support children fighting cancer. Here is the link to Zac's donation page: www.onemissionbuzzoff.org/patsfanzac

During the week of May, 23rd, Zac will be accepting donations during our lunch periods. Donations of any size will be accepted and appreciated. Zac has made buttons (click here to see a picture of Zac at work!) that will be given to any student who makes a donation.

Pizzas for Change (flyer)

Hello, my name is Jared Snyder and I am the Founder and President of Westwood High School's Social Justice Club. This month the club is partnering up with Comella's Restaurant to fundraise money for the Pine Street Inn Homeless Shelter in Boston. Below I have attached a flyer that explains the fundraiser. On Tuesday, May 10th, if a Comella's customer presents this flyer to their server for either sit down service or take-out service 10% of their check will be donated to the Pine Street Inn.
