Giving Thanks (photo)

The Deerfield Student Council facilitated a school-wide activity to highlight the many ways in which we are thankful at the Deerfield school. Below is what the Student Council members presented to all of our students:

Hi Everyone! We are here as representatives from your student council to tell you about an exciting Thanksgiving activity we have planned. We were talking at our student council meeting recently, and we decided that we wanted to something a little different to celebrate Thanksgiving at the Deerfield School.

We thought it was important to take some time to really think about what we have to be thankful for here at our school.  There is so much to be thankful for right here in our building, but sometimes we don’t even take the time to think about just how much we have to be grateful for.

Sometimes we get caught up in doing our work and trying to follow all the rules of school and we forget to think about how lucky we are to even be going to school.  There are many young people around the world who don’t have the opportunity to learn in a school where they are surrounded by good friends and adults who care about them.

So we are asking you to take a moment to think about the little things. Think about what you are most thankful for here at the Deerfield School. Then once you think of it, we are asking you to write it down on a feather. Everyone in your grade will be writing on the same color feather. Next week we will come by to collect all the feathers and then we will put all the feathers together on a giant turkey in the hallway where you can find your feather and look at all the different things we have to be thankful for.

Holiday Gift Shop

The following message is from the parent coordinators of the Holiday Gift Shop:

The PTO is happy to announce that once again we will be sponsoring the Holiday Gift Shop for the students of Deerfield. Mark your calendars for DECEMBER 7th (4:30 - 7:00)! Your family won’t want to miss this spectacular holiday event. The Gift Shop provides our children with an opportunity to make holiday purchases “secretly” (Gifts typically range from $1 - $3). For the youngest shoppers, helpers will be available. There will be gift wrapping, cookie decorating, holiday craft making and exciting raffles. Pizza and water will also be available for purchase that evening.

Many volunteers are needed to make this event successful!!

Moms, dads, older siblings (great opportunity for community service hours), grandparents and teachers are all welcome to help. If interested, please go to the “Get Involved” tab on the Deerfield School Website (under PTO) or simply go directly to this URL to sign up:
