Performances at Lunch

To help us get through the winter doldrums, the PTO has generously arranged for live musical performances once a month during our lunch periods. The performer(s) will play during all lunch periods on the first Thursday of each month beginning in December through running through April. The first performance will be Thursday, December 3rd.

PARCC Results

The Parent Reports with the PARCC results from the spring of 2015 will be sent home on Friday, December 4th. The PARCC exam was taken by last year's third, fourth, and fifth grade students in the content areas of Math and English Language Arts. Once you have received the Parent Report and reviewed your child's results, please let me know if you have any questions or would like to discuss the results.

Next Generation MCAS

The Board of Elementary and Secondary Education accepted Commissioner Chester’s recommendation to develop a Next Generation MCAS exam. The exam will be closely aligned, in content and format, with the PARCC exam. The first administration of this new exam is expected to take place in the spring of 2017. Westwood Public Schools will administer the PARCC exam in grades 3-8 in the spring of 2016.

Internet Safety Presentation for Grades 4 and 5 and Parents

The five Westwood Elementary Schools will be partnering this year with Lynette Owens, Global Director of Internet Safety for Kids & Families. Lynette Owens is the founder and Global Director of Trend Micro's Internet Safety for Kids and Families program. After many years in technology marketing, Lynette Owens founded the ISKF program in 2008 to help deliver on the company's vision of making a world safe for the exchange of digital information.  As a pro-technology and Internet safety advocate, Lynette Owens raises awareness about a wide range of issues pertaining to the safe and responsible use of the Internet.

On Wednesday, December 2nd, Lynette Owens will be speaking to our fourth and fifth grade students about how to Be Safe, Be Kind, and Be Savvy when it comes to their digital citizenship. In addition, Lynette Owens will present to all elementary parents on Wednesday, December 2nd at 7:00 PM in the Westwood High School Auditorium. I hope you are able to attend this special event.
