School Picture Day
Our School Picture Day is this Thursday, September 19th. School Picture order forms were sent home with students last week. The order forms should be returned to your child's classroom teacher by Wednesday, September 18th. You will also be able to purchase your child's school photo online at www.coffeepond.com.
Westwood Day Fun Run
Westwood Recreation is hosting the 8th annual Westwood Day on Saturday, September 21st. As part of the Westwood Day celebration, there will be a running race for elementary school students. The 1 Mile Fun Run promotes “School Spirit/Pride.” This inclusive event challenges each school to participate and show their spirit as a group. The elementary school with the highest percentage of students participating and school spirit will be awarded the perpetual trophy to proudly display at their school until Westwood Day 2020. The Sheehan School was awarded the 2018 Westwood Day Trophy. Who will be this year’s winner? Show your school spirit at Westwood Day’s Fun Run!

Curriculum Night: Thursday, October 3rd from 6:15pm - 8:15pm
The Elementary Curriculum Night will be held at Deerfield on Thursday, October 3rd. This event provides our students' parents and guardians with an opportunity to hear an overview of the year’s curriculum, see their child’s classroom, and ask general questions regarding the school year.
The schedule for the evening is as followed:
6:15pm - 7:00pm Classroom presentations for grades K-2
7:00pm - 7:30pm Principal’s Welcome in the gym for all grades
7:30pm - 8:15pm Classroom presentations for grades 3-5
Please follow this schedule for the entire evening. Classrooms will only be open during the scheduled presentation time.
This evening is for adults only. Babysitting will be provided during the event. Please let Mrs. Steverman (jsteverman@westwood.k12.ma.us) know if you need babysitting at Deerfield by Tuesday, October 1st.
Coffee with District Administrators on Friday, October 4th
Join District Administrators on Friday, October 4th, at 9am at the Hanlon School to discuss your perspective on the district and your hopes and expectations for your child's experience in school. The coffee is open to all families in the Westwood Schools.

Thank You So Much!
Thank you so much to the PTO Board members and all the Deerfield family members who volunteered to help with the set-up, food sales, and clean-up during our Welcome Back Community Picnic last Friday. We truly appreciate your efforts to make it an inclusive and enjoyable event for all who attended.
Reminder: Deerfield Site Council Members and First Meeting
We are looking for one or two Deerfield parents to serve on the Deerfield Site Council this year. The Deerfield Site Council is a school advisory group that is composed on parents, teachers, and community members. The council members assist the principal in: 1) Adopting educational goals for the school that are consistent with local educational policies and statewide student performance standards, 2) identifying the educational needs of students attending the school, 3) reviewing the annual school building budget, and 4) discussing a school improvement plan.
The Deerfield Site Council meets monthly throughout the year. Our meetings are usually held on Mondays from 3:00pm - 4:00pm. Please contact Mr. Baumer if you are interested in serving on the Deerfield Site Council during the 2019-2020 school year.

Reminder: Bus Code of Conduct
Last week, all Deerfield students who ride the school bus in the morning and/or afternoon brought home the Deerfield Bus Code of Conduct. This document states the Expected and Never Allowed bus behaviors, as well as the sequence of consequences students earn if Never Allowed behaviors occur. Once you have reviewed the behaviors and consequences with your child, please sign the Code of Conduct and return it to school. Thank you for your support in helping to ensure that our bus rides are safe for all students.

Reminder: Deerfield School Dismissal Form
The Deerfield School Dismissal Form is intended to help make sure our daily dismissal is safe and smooth for all students. If you have not done so already, please complete and return the form to Mrs. Steverman by Friday, September 13th. Please also make sure Mrs. Steverman has an accurate and updated dismissal schedule for your child throughout the school year.
