Important Reminders Regarding Arrival Procedures
Our school day begins at 8:50am. At 8:45am, a bell rings and students to line-up for morning announcements before proceeding to their classrooms. Students who arrive between 8:30am-8:45am will begin their day on the playground where staff members supervise a morning arrival time. In the case of inclement weather, students will proceed to the gym and cafeteria during this time. Please do not drop your child off before 8:30am. We are not able to provide supervision of students prior to that time.
Students who arrive after 8:50am are tardy and must check-in at the main office before proceeding to their classrooms. Please make every effort to help your child arrive before our 8:50am start time.
"Day Of" Dismissal Changes
If there is a "day of" change to your child's default dismissal plan, please enter the change into School Dismissal Manager by 11:00am. If a dismissal change is needed after 11:00am, please email the change to Deerfield's Administrative Assistant, Mrs. Abdou, at jabdou@westwood.k12.ma.us.
Thank you for your cooperation. Following this procedure and timeline will help ensure a safe and orderly dismissal process for our students.
Rescheduled: Bus Evacuation Practice: Tuesday, September 20th
Due to inclement weather, the annual bus evacuation practice for students was postponed last week and rescheduled for this Tuesday, September 20th. It will be facilitated by Westwood School Resource Officer, Brad Pindel. At each grade-level’s assigned practice time, students will meet with Office Pindel. He will do a short presentation and then have students go onto a bus to practice the emergency evacuation procedures.
Curriculum Night: This Thursday, September 22nd
CURRICULUM NIGHT WILL BE HELD IN-PERSON THIS YEAR. THIS EVENT IS FOR ADULTS ONLY.
Here is the schedule for the evening:
- 6:15pm - 7:00pm Classroom presentations for grades 3-5
- 7:00pm - 7:30pm Principal’s Welcome in the gym for all grades
- 7:30pm - 8:15pm Classroom presentations for grades K-2

All Westwood Public Schools Closed: Monday, September 26th
All Westwood Public Schools will be closed on Monday, September 26th for Rosh Hashanah.
Early Release Day on Wednesday, September 28th
The first early-release Wednesday of the school year will be next Wednesday, September 28th. Students will be dismissed at 11:50am and we will not have lunch or afternoon recess during the school day.
Reminder: Update from the Food Service Department
The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has decided to extend free school meals for all students through the 2022-2023 school year! This means that every student is eligible to receive one free lunch each day. You do not have to register your student or pre-order their lunch. Families are encouraged to reach out to Food Services with any dietary restrictions.

Reminder: Bus Code of Conduct
This week, all Deerfield students who ride the school bus in the morning and/or afternoon will bring home the Deerfield Bus Code of Conduct. This document states the Expected and Never Allowed bus behaviors, as well as the sequence of consequences students earn if Never Allowed behaviors occur. Once you have reviewed the behaviors and consequences with your child, please sign the Code of Conduct and return it to school. Thank you for your support in helping to ensure that our bus rides are safe for all students.
