Mini Courses
Mini Courses are short-term after-school enrichment classes run by the Deerfield PTO. For parents, they are convenient and reasonably priced. For students, they offer an opportunity to explore new interests, participate in favorite activities and socialize with friends. The classes are about fun enrichment topics, take place right after school, and are taught by a combination of our students’ favorite Deerfield teachers, Deerfield parents, and carefully selected specialists. Mini Courses are also a significant fundraiser for the Deerfield PTO!
We offer two Mini Course terms during the school year—Fall and Winter. Each term typically runs for 6 weeks with classes meeting once per week immediately following school, 2:45-4pm. For up-to-date schedule information, please refer to the Deerfield School Calendar which will reflect any make up classes due to unexpected events such as inclement weather.
Preparation & Pick-up
On the day of class, please:
- Remind your child that they are staying for their mini course.
- Send your child with a NUT FREE snack to eat between dismissal and the start of class.
- If your child is participating in an active class, please send appropriate attire, footwear and a water bottle.
- Be sure to pick your child up promptly at 4pm. Students are dismissed to their caregiver from their mini course classroom.
- We take the safety of your children seriously, so please sign your child out with the on-site coordinator at your child’s classroom before leaving for the day.

Report an Absence: If your student is at school but NOT going to attend their regularly scheduled mini-course, please let us know so we know to dismiss your child at regular dismissal.
Parent volunteers are a vital part of the program without whom we cannot run. Please consider volunteering to be an on-site coordinator. Coordinators take attendance, manage dismissal, and need to be present from 2:45-4pm. If you are selected to volunteer, your child will receive a free course!! Please email us if you are interested.
