Reminder: Internet Safety for Kids and Families Program is Tomorrow! (Flyer)

The following message is regarding an upcoming Internet Safety event being held on Tuesday, October 18th from 7:00pm - 8:30pm in the Westwood High School Auditorium:

Join us for an evening with Westwood High School students and Lynette Owens, founder and global director of Trend Micro’s Internet Safety for Kids & Families program, as we tackle some of the most common, confusing, and challenging issues facing young people growing up in a constantly internet-connected world. How does social media impact peer and family relationships? What are the expectations of online privacy for ourselves and for others? What are some pitfalls and hacks for making sure we are in control of technology and it is not in control of us? How do we use the Internet fully while keeping in mind our futures?

Hear some engaging discussions and come prepared with your questions and concerns. We highly encourage students grades 4-8 and their parents to attend this event together.  Our hope is that by discussing these issues as a community, we will understand and find new and more ways to support our students so they don’t just survive but thrive online.

Wednesday, October 19th is an Early-Release Day

Wednesday, October 19th is an early-release day for students. Students will be dismissed at 11:25am and lunch will not be served.

Capturing Nature in Westwood - Grade 8 (flyer)

Westwood Land Trust will be hosting the 10th Annual Capturing Nature in Westwood Art Exhibit to raise awareness and appreciation for our community's beautiful natural environment. Students and residents have been encouraged to go outside, look around and explore, and "capture" the natural beauty one sees through a painting, 3-D piece, photograph or any other preferred artistic medium.

Grade 8 students at Thurston Middle School, will be participating with a series of landscape inspired paper weavings that were created in class with their art teachers, Sarah Sanchez, and Robert Worth. The public is invited to the opening reception to view the exhibit on Thursday, October 27th, at the Westwood Public Library from 6:00-8:00 pm. The exhibit will remain on display until December 16th.

Holiday Giving Program (flyer)

The following message is from Westwood Youth and Family Services:

We are pleased to announce that planning has begun for our Holiday Giving Program.  Having taken place since 1999, this is a confidential process in which gifts are donated to families who may not be financially able to purchase gifts on their own for the holidays.

The Holiday Giving program is open to any resident of Westwood with children between birth to 18 years old, with no requirements as to the level of the need.  If a Westwood family identifies themselves to us as being in need of this program, we will include them.

If a family is interested in registering for the program they need to contact us directly at  youth@townhall.westwood.ma.us or 781-320-1006. The deadline to register is Friday, October 28th.
