06/10/20Summer Reading

Dear students,

This summer, we are partnering with the Westwood Public Library to participate in the Westwood Community Summer Reading Challenge, “Together, can we read 10,000 hours this summer?”

All Westwood High School students are expected to read at least one book this summer. Additionally, students are invited to participate in this community-wide reading challenge. See below for how participants can be eligible to receive one of several prizes. Please note: AP students may be assigned additional reading as needed to fulfill course requirements.

It’s simple: as you read your book(s) of choice this summer, help the town of Westwood reach its goal by tracking the number of pages you read in the Beanstack app, which is available through the Westwood Public Library.  All genres and formats count - fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, poetry, eBooks, audiobooks, etc.

You can also participate in activity challenges in Beanstack that allow you to earn badges and raffle tickets for the following grand prize baskets:

  • Gift Card Mania (Comellas Gift Card, Starbucks Gift Card and Visa Gift Card)
  • Book Lovers (Kindle Fire HD 8 Plus and Case, Amazon Gift Card and blanket)
  • Picture Perfect (Polaroid Camera and Film)
  • Summer of Sports (Nerf Hoop, Magnetic Dart Board, Frisbee and Celtics Player T-Shirt)

To sign up and get reading, visit Westwood Public Library Summer Reading 2020. You can also access the library’s collection of eBooks and audiobooks from this page.  If you need help finding a good book check out, the WHS Summer Reading List, the WPL Summer Reading List, or ask a librarian, teacher, parent or friend for recommendations. There are also several resources that support summer reading on the WHS Library page

If you have any questions, please reach out to Ms. Fisher, WHS Librarian: tfisher@westwood.k12.ma.us. We look forward to seeing you in the fall and hearing about all the great books you read.

Let’s work together to reach our community reading goal!

Sincerely,
Sean Bevan
