SEPAC Message
Did you know that there is a Parent Advisory Council in every school district in Massachusetts with the specific role of acting as a liaison between parents of students with disabilities and the School Committee and school administration? Westwood Public Schools is lucky to have an energetic and committed group of parents who are looking to increase the visibility and supportive role of Westwood’s Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC). In order to do this, Westwood Public Schools and the SEPAC are asking for input from the Westwood community about what would be most useful to parents and students. Are you looking for guest speakers? Interested in attending workshops? Maybe looking to find social connections and brainstorming? You don’t have to have a child in the schools with a disability to share your ideas. Please consider responding to the SEPAC survey link at: www.surveymonkey.com/r/YD7KZBV. You are also welcome to learn more about how to join and support this organization at the Westwood Public Schools’ website: http://www.westwood.k12.ma.us/district/superintendents-office/Student_Services/SEPAC.cf

Hale Reservation
Please read the message below from Eric Arnold, the Executive Director at Hale
As Thanksgiving approaches, Hale is excited to offer a new event to local families: our self-guided Opt Outside Scavenger Hunt, in partnership with REI. I’m hoping you’ll help us get word out at Sheehan School about this fun way to #OptOutside.
On Friday, November 25, seven geocaches will be hidden among Hale’s 1,137 acres. Geocaches are small boxes that contain information or objects. They’re hidden and known only by their geographic coordinates, which can be entered into a GPS device or smartphone.
Participants will be encouraged to park at Cat Rock, where they’ll pick up a map, instructions, and learn the coordinates of the geocaches. As they find each cache, they’ll place a sticker on their map, will learn about natural features in the area, and can post photographs of their adventure on Instagram.
Even better? There’s a prize. For every cache a participant finds, she or he will receive one entry in a drawing for a Membership Beach Session Bundle, valued at $520. Membership Beach families enjoy swimming lessons, arts and crafts, boating, fishing, archery, cookouts, and more.
If this sounds like something your students and their families would be interested in, would you mind helping us spread the word about this event? If so, please let Greg Freed know (gfreed@halereservation.org) and he will be happy to provide you with marketing materials.
Thank you in advance for your support. We hope you’ll #OptOutside at Hale on November 25, and that we see you many times before and after the holidays.
Sincerely,
Eric Arnold

Good Citizenship Challenge
At our recent Open Share , we were visited by four former Sheehan students now Westwood High School juniors. Jack Stebbins, Will Danforth, Emma Harte and Oriana Attridge spoke to all Sheehan students about how to be great citizens. They reinforced with our students our Sheehan Core 4 values and talked about the different ways to be good citizens in our Sheehan School community and in the Westwood community.
Jack, Will, Emma, and Oriana asked ALL Sheehan students to participate in The Citizenship Challenge.
As Citizens, we ask you to:
- Participate in ALL Sheehan Student Council Service Projects.
- Complete a community service activity outside the Sheehan School.
- Consistently show kind and respectful behavior.
- Always act responsibly.
- Follow the Sheehan Core Four Values.
Our students have been asked to keep a log of their service. Our WHS students will be meeting with our students to check in at our December Open Share and have our students share some examples of good citizenship. Please see the attached documents for The Citizenship Challenge.
We hope all students will participate!
